WINE OF THE MONTH

2005   Hess select moneterey Chardonnay

Wine Maker's Note

Classic tropical themes of ripe cut pineapple, guava and lemon zest give the aroma a lively life toward a similar flavor profile of ripe pear, peach and pineapple on the palate.  The body is medium in intensity, the perfect companion with food, especially in the crisp, cleansing fruit driven finish.

Winery Food Pairing

The tropical fruit notes in our Chardonnay make it a perfect match for light seafood such as crab cakes or scallops with an avocado salsa and spicier asian dishes.  Richer dishes such as creamy crab and vegetable pasta will be evlivened by the crisp finish.

Featured Wines

2005 “337” Cabernet Sauvignon - $12.99

The producer of this wine used to sell this Lodi grown Cab to some Napa Valley wineries to be added into their final blends…or so the story goes. I found it to have a very fruit forward profile, full of black currant and dark cherry notes, with a lengthy finish and enough tannins to cut right through that fresh off the grill rib-eye or chuck eye (for those of you like me who are on a budget). case discount applicable!

2005 Row 11 Vinas 3 Pinot Noir - $19.99

My wife has been asking me about this wine for a while and after sampling it at a tasting a while back, I brought it in. Customers who tasted it found it was a wine that needed a little time in glass to really open up, showing off its cherries and strawberries wrapped in a cashmere robe of vanilla flavor, with some nice cola notes showing up about 30 minutes later. Excellent value.case discount applicable!

2002 Elderton CSM Ode to Lorraine - $39.99 – 6 bottles just arrived

92 points Robert Parker: An impressive blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Shiraz, and 7% Merlot, the 2002 Ode to Lorraine possesses an extroverted bouquet of red and black fruits, pepper, licorice, cedar, and sweet, toasty new oak. Full-bodied, heady, and rich, it appears to have been made for the quintessential hedonist. It should continue to drink well for 6-7 years.

2005 Linne Calodo Sticks-n-Stones $64.99 – 6 bottles in stock

Kevin says: “I tried this Rhone style blend (62%-Grenache, 24%-Mourvedre, 14%-Syrah) at the High Museum trade tasting a couple weeks ago and it R O CK E D. Supple, full of rich black raspberry, licorice, and spices, with an ever long finish…hedonism in a bottle. Robert Parker has reviewed three prior vintages of this wine, with a tight range of scores. Two 95s and one 94, so I’d say the 05 should do well based on what I tasted and previous history. Of course, past performance is no guarantee of future success.”
